Press Release

108 South Street New York

September 13 – October 5, 2018

New York, NY – Nonfinito Gallery is pleased to present a collaboration with Mexico City based Aura Galerías, to present “Libertad”, a liaison between metropoles rich in culture that are destined to preserve their heritage through the works of immigrant artists, Ugo Schildge, Didier Mayés, Jorge Vidals and Sergio Valenzuela, best known as "Valenz." If culture, designates things and processes by which we act symbols of a place and time, and iconography, studies the identification of the content of images, then cultural iconography are the universally informed

The Statue of Liberty, gifted to The United States in 1886 by France during the American Revolution has since become a universal symbol for freedom or libertad. It is also this same Libertad that Latin American countries fought for just over two centuries ago; a freedom that its people have inherited ever since. This exhibition renders tribute to the new era of creative liberty: the privilege and right that an artist has to express themselves through their art.

A Libertad to let our minds wonder and create, without worries of consequence.

This showcasing brings together four completely different artistic styles, which illuminates the importance of creative liberty. With their vibrant colors, exquisite detail and abstract shapes, these paintings represent how these artists have materialized and portray their heritage. From Vidal’s perspective of the Oaxacan city and rural life, Mayes’ playful shapes, Valenz’s symbolism of patience and maturity to Schildges industrial influences— the one thing these painters have in common is their power to reach audiences and transmit their messages across the world. This is their freedom, their heritage, their libertad.

Open to the public and on display until October 5th.

Libertad will run through October 5, 2018. With an opening reception on September 13, 2018 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 11:00 am – 7:00 pm, and by appointment.
