Jack Gray

Jack Gray is drawn to the uncanny qualities of a situation, qualities that resonate in multiple layers of reality provoking an atmosphere of ambiguity and uncertainty. What starts as a wish for a recapture of the ordinary becomes an exploration of his sense of ambiguity and of alienation and oddity in our human life. In the attempt to find or recover his ordinary self, his work itself becomes a further level of reflective alienation, mocking his exploration with a, “so you thought you would find yourself here!” The attempt to find purchase in the world flounders in a more general subversion of the human situation, where even the sheer flatness of the everyday becomes sinister, familiarity a threat.

Jack received his BFA in the Film Animation Video department from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2017 and is continuing to live and work in Los Angeles, where he is originally from.
